A usability test is a formal evaluation process with the objective to improve
the user experience of the product being tested.
The process consists of gathering some of your representative users
and observing them carrying out the main tasks with your solution.
User testing doesn't have to require a lot of resources!
Sometimes as little as a couple of users and a half-day of testing can uncover
most of the issues. The important aspect is to repeat the process
as soon as the first set of design problems have been fixed for further improvements.
While developing a software solution for an application for
one of my clients I set up a morning test session every week,
during a one month development, coupled with an afternoon review
session in cooperation with the software developer to solve the issues
found in the usability tests.
This fast and cheep iterative process improved significantly my client's solution.
Your solution can also reach high user experience quality and customer satisfaction!
